Hi, please see your doctor and get anti anxiety tablets, and anti depressants if you need them . It will also help to take a good multi vitamin and high EPA fish oils. When you start to feel panicky, try deep breathing and imagine a soothing light g through your body and out through your feet.

    Sawat Dee Khrap:

I’m bipolar with panic anxiety disorder and have lived in many countries, including 4 1/2 years in various places in Thailand.

As you state it is all in your mind.

Some facts: Going alone you merely need to take standard precautions such as not eating or drinking food offered by strangers (especially fellow ‘passengers’), not getting into private vehicles (take marked taxis and pay the extra) and don’t venture out alone at night (don’t take shortcuts down dark alleys, etc.).

I assure you there are places in your location that are as, or more, dangerous than 99.9% of Thailand.

Of course Bangkok is the except so consider it just like the streets of NY or Chicago. Except in Thailand you are a tourist and that affords you a great deal of protection against serious bodily harm.

That’s the long way of saying you really aren’t anymore at risk doing business in Bangkok as you are in any major city in the USA.

So… panic doesn’t go away because you are told it is invalid – sorry about that.

    Positive thinking helps.

The bottom line is, one way or another, you must get control over your thoughts and force them away from negativity. Some techniques that work to help you learn that are called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), If you suffer from panic attacks I assure you a qualified psychologist who is trained in CBT can CURE you (yes cure not just help). Of course that means you’ll need a health plan or expect to pay around $ 150 an hour for 20 to 30 hourly sessions.

    Meanwhile… something to help now:

Pick something you have an interest in such as a sport or history or whatever. Lets use baseball as an example. When you start to have a panic attack immediately force yourself to put the teams into alphabetical order. By the time you get to the E’s your panic attack will probably be over with significantly less trauma. It could also be the presidents, in date order, or the states or capitals in reverse-alpha … whatever. Pick something you know about and remember to use it next time you have an attack. It should minimize the trauma and shorten the episode.

    Any, good luck.
