Cinnamon, diabetes and insulin resistance
A few months ago I came across an article that tied together cinnamon, diabetes and insulin resistance. Became curious and I have to follow some of the research and has some amazing discoveries. In fact, I am very surprised that what I discovered is not covered by the evening news, major newspapers and is a constant theme in the upper Drudge account the depth of what you learn.
First, the background on insulin, insulin resistance and diabetes. After dinner, the food is broken down into glucose, the simple sugar that is the main source of energy for body cells. But our cells can not use glucose without insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas. Insulin helps cells take in glucose and converts it into energy. When the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body is unable to insulin, can not cells with glucose. Built excess glucose in the blood, thus paving the way for diabetes.
As overweight or obese affects the way insulin works in your body. Extra fat tissue, the body resistant to insulin action. If you do not have insulin resistance, your muscle, fat and liver cells, insulin properly. The pancreas tries to keep pace with demand by producing more insulin. Finally, the pancreas can not keep pace with the needs of the body to insulin and glucose accumulates in the blood. Many people in the resistance to insulin were glucose and insulin in the bloodstream at the time.
People with levels of sugar in the blood that are higher than normal but not yet in the diabetic range have “pre-diabetes or insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is a condition that not all hidden symptoms are present, which increases the likelihood of developing diabetes and heart disease and debilitating. If you have pre-diabetes, you have an increased risk of developing diabetes type 2 diabetes or early non-insulin-dependent . Studies have shown that most people will develop pre-diabetes to type 2 diabetes within 10 years if they lose weightówhich 5 to 7 per cent of his body is about 10 to 15 pounds for someone to the 200 slightly poundsóby changes in their diet weight and degree of physical activity. People with pre-diabetes have a higher risk of heart disease. Type 2 diabetes is also a form of diabetes where the body does not respond properly to insulin, as opposed to type 1 diabetes, in which the pancreas produces no insulin at all defined and developed. First, the pancreas continues to meet the additional demand by producing more insulin. Over time, however, he loses the ability to secrete enough insulin in response to meals.
OK, I made the connection with diabetes and insulin resistance. What is wrong with Cinnamon? In August 2000, the U. S. Department of Agriculture preliminary conclusions that “Cinnamon May significantly help people with type 2 diabetes to improve their ability to regulate their blood glucose levels announced. In fact, the study showed that the metabolism of glucose 20 times.” In the coming years, other studies have been conducted with people in order to further evaluate this surprising result. Conducted in a small study of 60 patients in Pakistan, had been reporting in the journal Diabetes Care, all patients were treated for Type 2, adult onset diabetes for several years and took antidiabetic agents, increase production of insulin. But they are not treated with insulin to process blood sugar. The subjects were given doses of cinnamon, ranging from as little as a teaspoon quarter 2 teaspoons per day for 40 days.
The results surprised scientists, but also lower than the previous. Increase not only cinnamon lower blood sugar levels and natural production of insulin, reduced their blood cholesterol as well. Also completed 20 days after treatment had cinnamon, patients continued to see positive effects.
This is good news for more than 50 million Americans who suffer from diabetes and / or heart problems. All patients in the study showed improved glucose metabolism and natural insulin production when they capsules of cinnamon, which has less than two teaspoons a day delivered the spice.
In particular, their blood cholesterol levels were lowered in the range 10 to 26 per cent, affecting the total cholesterol and reduce LDL (bad cholesterol is known), but not reduced levels of HDL, the good cholesterol.
Maybe this is good news for the millions more of us who suffer from insulin resistance, sometimes called “pre-diabetes or metabolic syndrome. Lowering of blood sugar and improved cholesterol ratio can reverse pre – help for diabetes and metabolic syndrome, and in fact may actually prevent the onset of full diabetes.
Better news still, while the addresses of cinnamon blood sugar level increases and contributes to the fight against insulin resistance, but also a success factor to help you lose weight. The fat cells of the abdomen are particularly sensitive to high insulin levels, and very efficient to store energy from fat, so that the cells that you find in other areas, such as lower body (hips ie, back, thighs). Because abdominal fat cells are close to your digestive organs and there is a dense network of blood vessels in the abdominal region are backing up even easier for fat cells to excess glucose.
Now here’s the challenge: still a lot of cinnamon in one day without being absolutely sick to death of taste. With this research, I decided on my own Guinea pigs for testing. I spent the first few weeks to a couple of teaspoons of cinnamon in a bowl of oatmeal every morning, and after the third day, I knew that this was not a viable strategy in the long term. Then I went online and found an excellent source of cinnamon capsules. I have less than two capsules of cinnamon per day, since I was my discovery and the impact profound. I lost 14 kg and not a large bulge around my waist. I changed nothing else in my life other than adding the cinnamon capsules. My diet is primarily low-carb, but I’m not fanatical about it. I have a quiet desk job and the extent of my exercise is homemade and playing with dogs. This does not qualify as a rigorous scientific controlled test whether, but I am certainly convinced that I am a champion of what works and it’m devilishly difficult.
